Stromae AI: what people mean, and which one you're looking for
"Stromae AI" usually means one of two trends. The first is AI music: most famously "Papaoutai (Afro Soul)", an AI-generated cover of Stromae's 2013 hit that went viral in January 2026. The second is the Alors on Danse AI video meme, where two photos are recast into a comedy sketch of Stromae and Jamel Debbouze. The video meme does not clone his voice or create new songs.
Which "Stromae AI" are you looking for?
| You searched for | What it is | Where to go |
|---|---|---|
| Stromae AI song, AI cover, "Papaoutai afro soul AI" | AI-generated music that imitates or covers his songs | Section 1 below |
| Stromae AI video, Stromae AI meme, Alors on Danse AI | A video meme recasting the Stromae and Jamel studio sketch with your photos | Section 2 below |
| Does Stromae use AI? | Questions about the artist himself | Section 3 below |
1. AI covers: "Papaoutai (Afro Soul)"
The best-known example is "Papaoutai (Afro Soul)", an AI-generated cover of Stromae's 2013 song "Papaoutai". It was released in late December 2025 and went viral on TikTok and YouTube in January 2026, helped by videos of a singer lip-syncing to it. Many listeners assumed it was a real performance before its AI origin was flagged. It is credited to other creators and an independent label, not to Stromae, and it sparked debate about labelling AI music and who owns covers like it (Wikipedia).
2. The Alors on Danse AI video meme
The second trend is visual. It recasts a comedy sketch from Jamel Debbouze's Made in Jamel, in which Jamel "coaches" Stromae in a white studio while Stromae plays it cool at the keyboard. AI video models swap new faces into both roles. That is what DanseAI makes:
| Alors on Danse AI video (DanseAI) | AI music covers | |
|---|---|---|
| Output | Video, 5 to 30 seconds | Audio track |
| Your input | Two photos, people or pets | Usually none; made by the cover's creator |
| Voice | No voice generated | Imitated singing voice |
| Music | Reference soundtrack added to the MP4 | New AI recording |
| Is it a face swap filter? | No, the whole performance is re-rendered | Not applicable |
More on the sketch in The Alors on Danse meme explained.
3. Does Stromae use AI, and has he reacted?
We have not found a public statement from Stromae about the AI covers or the Alors on Danse AI meme. Reports on "Papaoutai (Afro Soul)" noted that the artists credited on it had not commented either. This section will be updated if that changes.
Is the Kanye West remix AI?
No. The "Alors on danse" remix featuring Kanye West was released in 2010, years before today's AI music tools. It is an official remix.
Make the video meme
Upload one photo for the keyboard player and one for the hype partner. The finished MP4 includes the soundtrack, and no voice is generated.
